Development in Strides Program Overview
The Development in Strides program at the Oshawa Community Hockey League (OCHL) is a specialized initiative designed to introduce children aged 6-10 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to the sport of hockey. The primary goal of this program is to provide these children with an opportunity to learn a new sport while simultaneously building their social skills and confidence.
Target Audience
The program targets children aged 6-10 who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These children often face unique challenges in social interactions and may benefit from structured activities that promote teamwork and communication.
Program Operation
The Development in Strides program operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to 72 participants divided into 6 teams. The program runs from October to March at Delpark Arena in Oshawa. Certified coaches lead the sessions, ensuring that each child receives personalized attention and support.
