Oshawa Heritage Tournament Rules and Regulations Rev. Jan 18, 2019

 


 

The primary purpose of the Heritage Tournament is to provide competitive hockey with other House League

 

Rostered Select teams from other centers, with a strong emphasis on the promotion of good sportsmanship.

 

 

All games are played under Hockey Canada and Ontario Minor Hockey Association rules, with the following additions:

 

1. The Heritage Tournament will NOT be responsible for accidents or injury to players, team officials ,or spectators

before, during, or after games.

 

 

2. Tournament Conduct

 

The Tournament executive reserves the right to address all teams in their respective dressing rooms before

 

games to emphasize the following:

 

a. Tournament playing rules

 

b. Tournament conduct and sportsmanship

 

c. To answer questions regarding the tournament provided they are requested in a polite

 

and courteous manner

 

 

3. Sweaters

 

Each team should bring two ( 2 ) sets of sweaters . Home team will wear the light color sweater and the Visitor will

wear the dark color sweater, whenever both teams have 2 sets of sweaters. If the Home team has only 1 set of

 

sweaters and the Visiting team has 2 sets of sweaters the Visiting team will change. If both teams only have 1 set

 

of sweaters the tournament will supply a set of sweaters to the appropriate team as stated above. The Home and

 

Visiting Team are indicated on the schedule and the official gamesheet.

4. Team Rosters

 

Approved rosters must be submitted to the tournament director a minimum of two ( 2 ) weeks prior to the

 

start of the tournament

 

a. All teams may register a maximum of TWENTY ( 20 ) players, of which one ( 1 ) must be a dressed goaltender

 

who is eligible to play in the tournament

 

b. All teams may dress a maximum of NINETEEN ( 19 )players including two ( 2 ) goaltenders who are eligible

 

to play in the tournament (revised Jan 2016 )

 

c. Goaltenders may NOT be borrowed under any circumstance. ( rev 01/2019)

 

d. The Heritage Tournament Committee and the Board of Directors of the Oshawa Church Hockey League

 

strongly recommends that each team have two ( 2 ) dressed goaltenders for each game.

 

 

5. Travel Permits and/or Permission letters

 

Travel Permits and/or Permission letters duly signed by an authorized signing authority of the teams organization

or governing body must be submiitted to the tournament director a minimum of two(2) weeks prior to the start of

the tournament.

 

 

6. Equipment

 

All players and goaltenders must wear C.S.A. approved helmets, chin straps, face masks, gloves, BNQ approved

 

neck protectors, mouthguards, etc. (if required by the teams governing body).

 

 

7. Tournament Composition

 

1. The main body of the tournament rules applies to divisions of 3,4,5, 6,7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13,14 ,and 16 teams.

2. There will be two ( 2 ) points awarded for a win, one ( 1 ) point for a tie and zero ( 0 ) points for a loss.

 

In addition points per period will be awarded as follows: one ( 1 ) point for winning a period, one half (1/2) point

for tying a period, and zero ( 0 ) points for losing a period. Maximum points per game is 5 points.

 

 

3. In the three (3) team division, each team will play each other twice in the round robin. After the round robin

 

games, the two (2) teams with the most points will play in the "Gold" final. The third place team will be eliminated.

4. In the four ( 4 ) team division each team will play each other in the round robin. After the round robin games,

the top two ( 2 ) teams with the most points will play in the "Gold" final, and the next two (2) teams will play in the

"Silver" final.

 

5. In the five (5) team division each team will play 3 round robin games. After the round robin games, the top two (2)

teams with the most points will play in the "Gold" final. The next two (2) teams will play in the "Silver" final.

 

The fifth place team will be eliminated. (Rev 01/2014)

 

 

6. In the six ( 6 ) team division the teams will be placed in two ( 2 ) pools of three ( 3 ) teams each. The teams will play

every team in their division and one ( 1 ) crossover game for a total of three (3) round robin games.

 

After the round robin games, the first place team in pool "A" will play the first place team in Pool"B" for the "Gold"

Championship. Second place team in Pool "A" will play second place team in Pool "B" for the "Silver" Championship.

Third place team in Pool "A" will play the third place team in Pool "B" for the "Bronze" Championship.

 

 

7. In the seven (7) team division, the teams will play three (3) games in a round robin style. The OCHL team will play a

fourth game. so that everybody plays three games. The points earned by the OCHL team in the 4th game will not

Count in the standings. After the round robin, the top two teams will play in the “Gold” division final. The

next two (2) teams will play in the "Silver" division final and the next two teams will play in the “Bronze”

division final. The 7th place team is eliminated. (Revised 01/2017)

 

8. In the eight ( 8 ) team division the teams will be placed in two ( 2 ) pools of four ( 4 ) teams each. The teams will play

every team in their division for a total of three ( 3 ) round robin games. After the round robin games, the first

place team in Pool "A", will play the first place team in Pool " B ", for the " Gold " Championship. Second place team in

Pool "A", will play second place team in Pool "B" for the "Silver" Championship. Third place team in Pool "A" will play

the third place team in Pool "B" for the "Bronze" Championship.

The Fourth place teams in each pool are eliminated.(rev 01/2017)

 

9. In the nine ( 9 ) team division, the teams will be placed in three ( 3 ) pools of three (3) teams each.

 

The teams will play two ( 2 ) round robin games in their division. After the round robin, the top team with the most

points will receive a bye to the "Gold" Championship game. The other two(2) first place teams play in a semi-final

Game. The winner of this game goes to the "Gold" Championship game and the loser of this game goes to the

“Silver” Championship game. The top two ( 2 ) second place teams play in the next semi-final game.The winner

goes to the “Silver” Championship game and the loser of this game is eliminated. The next second place team plays

The top third place team in the next semi-final game. The winner of this semi-final game plays in the "Bronze"

Championship game and the loser of this game is eliminated. The remaining third place teams play in the next

semi-final, with the winner of this game playing in the "Bronze" Championship game. The loser of this game

is eliminated.

 

 

10. In the ten ( 10 ) team division the teams will be placed in two ( 2 ) pools of five ( 5 ) teams each. The teams will play

a total of three ( 3 ) round robin games. After the round robin games the first place team in pool "A" will play the

first place team in Pool " B ", for the " Gold " Championship. Second place team in pool "A" will play the second

place team in pool "B" for the "Silver" Championship. Third place team in pool "A" will play the third place

team in pool “B” for the “Bronze” Championship. All other teams will be eliminated, *

 

 

 

11. In the eleven ( 11 ) team division, the teams are placed in two ( 2 ) pools, one with six (6) teams and the other division

with five ( 5 ) teams. Each team plays three ( 3 ) games in the round robin. The OCHL team will play a fourth game,

so that everybody plays three games. The points earned by the OCHL team in the 4th game will not count in the

in the standings. After the round robingames, the top team in each division will play in the "Gold" Championship.

12. In the twelve ( 12 ) team division, the teams will be placed in four ( 4 ) pools of three(3) teams each. In the round

robin each team will play the other teams in their pool. At the end of the round robin ( 2 games) the top team in

Pool “A” will play the top team in Pool "C", with the winner advancing to the "Gold" Championship game and the

loser is eliminated. The top team in Pool "B" will play the top team in Pool "D", with the winner advancing to the

“Gold” Championship game and the loser is eliminated. At the edn of the round robin the second place team in

Pool "A" will play the 2nd place team in Pool “C”, with the winner advancing to the “Silver” Championship game

and the loser is eliminated. The 2nd place team in Pool "B" will play the 2nd place team in Pool "D", with the

winner advancing to the "Silver" Championship and the loser is eliminated. At the end of the round robin, the 3rd

place teamin pool "A" will play the 3rd place team in Pool "C", with the winner advancing to the “Bronze”

Championship game and the loser is eliminated. The 3rd place team in Pool “B” will play the 3rd place team in

Pool "D", with the winner asdvancing to thr "Bronze" Championship game and the loser is eliminated.

13. In the thirteeen(13) team division, the teams will be placed into two (2) groups. One group of six(6) teams and one

group of seven (7) teams. Every team will play 3 round robin games in their groupings. In the group with 7 teams,

the OCHL team (or another designated team) will play a fourth game to accommodate the odd number of teams.

Any points earned by the OCHL team (or the designated team) in the 4th game do not count in the standings.

After the round robin, the top team in each group will face off in the "Gold" final. The second place teams in each

group will play in the "Silver" final, and the third place teams will be in the “Bronze” final. All other teams will be

14. In the fourteen ( 14 ) team division, the teams will be placed in 2 pools of 4 teams and 2 pools of 3 teams.

 

In the round robin, each team will play 2 round robin games to determine their seeding for the semi-final games.

In the first semi-final, the first place team in pool A plays the first place team in pool C, winner goes to the "Gold"

final, losing team is eliminated. First place team in pool B plays the first place team in pool D and the winner goes

to the "Gold" final and the losing team is eliminated. The second place team in Pool A plays the second team in Pool C,

winner goes to the "Silver" final and the losing team is eliminated. The second place team in pool B plays the second

place team in pool D, winner goes to the "Silver" final and the losing team is eliminated. The third place team in Pool A

plays the third place team in pool C and the winner goes to the"Bronze" final and the losing team is eliminated. The

third place team in pool B plays the third place team in pool D and the winner goes to the “Bronze” final and the

losing team is eliminated. The fourth place team in pool B will play the fourth place team in pool D in the D final

16. In the sixteen ( 16 ) team division, the teams will be placed in 4 pools of 4 teams. In the round robin, each team will

play the other teams in their pool. In the first semi-final the first place team in Pool "A" plays the first place team in

Pool "C", with the winner advancing to the "Gold" Championship game and the losing team advances to the "Silver"

Championship game. In the second semi-final the first place team in Pool "B" plays the first place team in Pool "D",

with the winner advancing to the "Gold" Championship game and the loser advancing to the "Silver" Championship

Game. *All the remaining teams are eliminated after the round robin is completed. *(Revised 01/2018)

 

 

 

 

 

8. Ties in the Standings

 

Ties in the round robin standings will be broken using the following rules in the stated order:

 

a) If two teams are tied the team with the higher rank will be

 

1) The winner of the game between the tied teams if applicable

 

2) Goal Percentage - total goals for divided by the total goals for plus the total goals against.

 

3) Team with fewest goals against

 

4) Coin toss

 

b) if three or more teams are tied in the standings the team with the higher rank will be:

 

1) Goal Percentage - total goals for divided by the total goals for plus the total goals against.

 

2) Team with fewest goals against

 

3) Coin toss

 

 

9. Game Times

 

a) Tournament time schedules are most important.

 

b) All players and coaches must be in the arena 30 minutes prior to the start of each game time and must be

Prepared to start their game a maximum of twenty (20 ) minutes prior to scheduled start of their game.

 

c) The tournament committee reserves the right to alter game times if necessary.

 

d) Any delay in starting of games may result in disqualification from the tournament.

 

 

10. Official Game Sheets

 

a) Official game sheets must be completed and signed by the coaching staff prior to game.

 

b) Official game sheets will be completed in the tournament office, and can not be removed to be completed.

c) If official game sheets are not completed prior to the game time may result in disqualification from the tournament.

 

11. Dressing Rooms

 

a) Dressing rooms shall be available 30 minutes prior to the start of each game

 

b) Teams must vacate their dressing room a maximum of 30 minutes after the completion of each game.

 

c) Tournament officials will inspect each dressing room after each team vacates the room and any damage will be noted.

d) Team officials and their organization will be held responsible for the costs of repairing any damages.

 

 

12. Length of Round Robin Games

 

a) All games will consist of three ( 3 ) ten ( 10 ) minute stop time periods

 

b) Round robin games will NOT be curfewed. ( rev 01/2019)

 

c) NO overtime in the round robin games

 

d) NO timeouts in round robin games

 

e) In the third period of each game, if the score differental is five (5) or more goals the time clock will become running

time until the differential drops to three ( 3 ) goals or less, then the time clock will revert back to stop time.

f) Length of penalties will remain the same in either stop time or running time

 

g) Flooding of the ice shall only be done at the completion of each game

 

 

13 Semi-Final Games

 

a) All games will consist of three ( 3 ) ten ( 10 ) minute stop time periods

 

b) Semi-Final games will NOT be curfewed. Rev 01/2019)

 

c) In case of a tie, there will be a five ( 5 ) minute RUNNING TIME sudden victory overtime using the following rules:

* i) Overtime period will be played with 4 skaters and 1 goaltender for each team

 

* ii) Players may be changed on the fly only during the overtime period

 

d) if the game is still tied after the overtime, then a sudden victory shootout will be held to determine a winner using

the following procedures:

* i) Individual shooters will be used until one team scores and the other team does not. The team that scores will

be declared the winner

 

* ii) both players will shoot at the same time

 

e) All skaters on a team must participate in the shootout prior to a player being used twice.

 

f) Players who have been ejected from the game are not eligible to participate in the shootout.

 

g) Players serving a penalty at the end of the overtime are not eligible to participate in the shootout.

 

* h) No time out in semi- final games. *(Rev 01/2016)

 

14. Championship Games

 

a) All games will consist of three ( 3 ) ten ( 10 ) minute stop time periods

c) In case of a tie, there will be a five ( 5 ) minute RUNNING TIME sudden victory overtime ultilizing the following rules:*

d) If the game is still tied after the overtime, then a sudden victory shootout will be held to determine a winner

*h) Each team is allowed one 30 second time out during championship play. Player changes NOT allowed during

the time out.

 

15. No Protests will be allowed in the tournament

 

 

16. All teams are responsible for the storage of their equipment

 

 

17. No Fighting - all players who are assessed a fighting major penalty will be suspended for the remainder of the tournament.

 

18. All Penalties in which an OMHA suspension applies will begin their suspension in the next scheduled tournament game.

All suspensions can be served in the tournament and if the suspension is completed the player is eligible to return

and play in any remaining games. If at the end of the Tournament , the suspension has not been completely served,

the remaining suspension games would be served with their regular league games.* The only exception to this rule is

fighting majors ( see rule #17) and match penalties. * ( Rev. 01/2015)

 

 


 



 

19. All decisions of the Heritage Hockey Tournament executive will be conveyed to the teams Head Coach in a polite

and sportsmanship like manner and all decisions are final.
